Teacher of Computer Science

OBJECTIVES:

SPGS International School Chengdu is seeking to appoint an outstanding and inspiring Teacher of Computer Science to join the Senior School from August 2026.

The successful candidate will be a knowledgeable and enthusiastic subject specialist who is able to inspire curiosity, creativity and intellectual challenge in the classroom. They will deliver high-quality teaching across Key Stage 3, IGCSE and A Level, preparing students for success in leading universities worldwide.

This role would suit a teacher who is passionate about computing, programming and digital innovation, and who enjoys working with ambitious and highly capable students.

Candidates who are also able to teach a related subject, particularly Mathematics, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Beyond the classroom, the successful candidate will contribute fully to the academic and pastoral life of the school and support the school’s commitment to academic excellence, character development and student wellbeing.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning

The Teacher of Computer Science will:

  • Teach Computer Science across KS3, IGCSE and A Level, delivering engaging and intellectually rigorous lessons.

  • Plan and deliver well-structured lessons that challenge students and support high levels of academic achievement.

  • Foster curiosity, creativity and problem-solving through programming, computational thinking and digital technologies.

  • Design and implement schemes of work that reflect best practice in computing education.

  • Set appropriately challenging work and provide clear, constructive feedback to support progress.

  • Monitor and track student progress carefully and intervene promptly where support is required.

  • Prepare students effectively for internal and external examinations.

  • Support students in developing independence, resilience and a love of learning.

Curriculum Development and Professional Collaboration

The post holder will:

  • Contribute actively to the ongoing development of the Computer Science curriculum.

  • Share resources, ideas and best practice with colleagues within the department and across the school.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues at SPGS London to draw on subject expertise and strengthen curriculum provision.

  • Participate in lesson observation, peer coaching and professional learning communities.

  • Remain up to date with developments in Computer Science education, technology and digital innovation.

  • Contribute to departmental planning and curriculum review.

Assessment and Reporting

The post holder will:

  • Design and administer appropriate assessments.

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and attainment.

  • Provide clear and meaningful feedback to students and parents.

  • Write high-quality academic reports in line with school expectations.

  • Set aspirational yet realistic targets for students.

Student Support and Pastoral Care

The Teacher of Computer Science will:

  • Support the pastoral and academic development of students.

  • Work with mentors, pastoral staff and learning support colleagues to ensure students receive appropriate support.

  • Ensure students with additional learning needs are supported in line with their Individual Education Plans.

  • Promote positive behaviour and uphold the school’s expectations for conduct.

Contribution to School Life

Teachers at SPGS International School Chengdu are expected to contribute fully to the life of the school. The post holder will:

  • Contribute to the wider academic and co-curricular programme, including clubs, competitions or enrichment opportunities linked to computing.

  • Support whole-school events and initiatives.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

  • Desirable: PGCE, QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

LANGUAGES

  • Fluent in English.


WORKING EXPERIENCE

  • At least two years’ teaching experience in a UK or international school environment.

  • Experience teaching Computer Science to examination level.

  • Experience preparing students for IGCSE and/or A Level examinations is desirable
